It’s Probably Time To Upgrade

Feb-25th-2007

Don’t just toss out your trusty old friend! Just because there is a new shiny model on the showroom floor, doesn’t mean you have to buy it. Save yourself money and do some upgrading.

With the price of computers these days, it is important to get the most out of your purchase. So maybe you’re not a computer whiz but you can still make some additions to your computer to bring it up to date.

Upgrading your computer is cost effective and it can help you learn a little more about the technology you are working with every day. Choose the tasks you are going to tackle and get out your tool box. Not that you’ll be using it much, but keep it close anyway. You will need a screwdriver or two and a little bit of patience.

Dinosaur Technology – Floppy Disc Drives

Today we are going to discuss what will soon be an obsolete technology. I know that we are all scared of change, but trust me on this one, change is a good thing.Retro may be the IN thing right now but you do not want to be retro when it comes to your computer hardware, unless you are a collector of retro computer hardware. Floppy Drives and Floppy Discs do still exist, but in a few years, that probably won’t be true. Floppy Drives are a near obsolete technology which means they are on their way out. Remember your old 45’s? Do you recall how you absolutely refused to believe that they were one day going to be dinosaurs?
Now CD’s or MP3’s are the way you listen to music. You probably spend a lot of time burning music discs or downloading songs to your mp3 player, never stopping to think about your vinyl, now stuffed away in the closet. Well, get ready to have that same experience with your Floppy’s.

Getting To Know Your PC Power Supply Unit

Feb-15th-2007

Today I am going to speak about a small part of your computer system that controls everything else in the system. It is the number one cause of hardware problems. It is so obvious, that it’s often overlooked when troubleshooting a computer for malfunctions. If you have ever called tech-support and were asked what seemed like the dumbest question ever, “Is the computer plugged into the wall and is the power turned on ”, you should know that the number of times that the answer to that question is ,”ummmm no” is a lot. They ask that question because like I said, “It is so obvious that it is often overlooked.”

When All Else Fails, Smash It

Feb-5th-2007

If you have been around computers for any amount of time at all, you have probably been driven to the brink of insanity by a whining, humming, or clanking noise that never went away. I truly believe that it is a conspiracy by the computer manufacturers. They want to drive us nuts with noises so we go buy new parts or new computers just to get rid of the noise. Sad thing about it is, as soon as you do either of those, in a day or so there will be a new bothersome sound to drive you carzy. <- see? And don’t think you are an oddball because you are so bothered by these noises. The U.S. Military has been known to use sounds to make enemies surrender in showdowns. They used them at Waco and they used them with Qadaffi , just to name a couple. So if you surrender to your machine, we understand, but just maybe I can help you out a little before you are completely defeated.
