I have a virus that causes about 38 explorer windows to pop up, how do i get rid of it?

Jun-22nd-2009

I have asked once before but the answers didn't solve it. I have a virus that makes about 38 internet explorer windows pop. The window has the same page of whatever i was viewing before the attack. What is it and how do I get rid of it?

may not be a virus ,it may be spyware. you need to scan with mulitable scanners both anti virus and anti spyware. try trendmicro' housecall for virus's and lavasofts adaware, and spybot search and destroy, yahoos antispy, and googles spyware doctor (google pack just download the scanner )
You have to attack from many different angles

    Dear,

Virus is a malicious program that has been made by some anti computer or hijackers to steal information from a specific computer, These can harm your computer.

Here is very good and effective free Antivirus available to install, That is,

    PCTools

It provides Free Antivirus and Firewall with free registration for regular updates.

    Download at http://needcom.in

    and look for

    Softwares > Antivirus > PCTools

you can find more anti viruses there.

For Heaven's sake, man! Its simple! Go get an antivirus software installed on your computer. It will scan and delete the virus. I recommend TRend Anti MicroVirus. Its that simple, sometimes you just need to use your brain.

This could be a virus, spyware, adware or other malware. Because the purpose of these programs varies, as does their approach, methods for cleaning these out of the system vary as well.

The first thing I would recommend is to obtain anti-virus, anti-spyware and other protection software.

Many anti-virus packages can remove some spyware and adware. I have provided links below to the specific applications I am most familiar with.

My recommendation would be to download these applications, disconnect from the internet then run the spyware removal tool.
Install your anti-virus software and firewall software.
Each of these applications is reasonably simple to install.
You will need to reconnect to the internet to finalize your installations, and your firewall will prompt you regarding most programs attempting to access the internet.

Until you become accustomed to what each application requesting internet access is, I recommend NOT using the 'remember this' option when allowing or denying internet access to the program.

Always err on the side of caution by denying applications you can not identify. If the application really legitimately needs internet access you will quickly identify it when it makes repeated attempts based upon your actions.

You will need to give the antivirus permission to access the internet so it can download the most recent updates (which may be released several times a day in some cases).

Once the antivirus is up to date and running. Disconnect from the internet again, and run a Complete scan of your system with the antivirus software, and use the computer for nothing else until this first scan is completed. This will minimize the amount of time it takes to complete the scan.

  10. Tommy Said,

    Hey,dear~~
I think you should get rid of IE. My friends alway ask me to fix their crazy IE.
But, I tell them IE is not good to use. IE is unstable, error prone, and insecure.
U may often see IE crash like http://0rz.tw/024jV

U should try Firefox. Firefox is a web browser that is basically like Internet Explorer, but it runs 127% faster (you see the pages quicker) and also has a built in spell checker!

Firefox is an open source project, so many enthusiastic programmers trace the source code every day. Thus, firefox has become more and more robust!

Give yourself a nice browsing experience.

    Good luck!!!!

  11. Darren Said,

Update your anti-virus, remember to only have one anti-virus installed on your PC
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html [Free, if you do not have one]

    Download SuperAntiSpyware
    http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html [free home edition]

Restart your PC in safe mode, and run a full scan with both.

While in safe mode, you may also want to have a look at your start up items by using msconfig.
    http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

Be careful with the items you uncheck, you can have a look here to see if they are necessary
    http://www.greatis.com/appdata/index.html

You should also have a look at your IE Add-ons while in safe mode.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/web/sp2_addonmanager.mspx
Disable any you do not use.

After you reboot back to normal mode, download and install ccleaner to fix any registry problems and clean up old temp files.
