Nobody is immune…We all are slaves to electronic devices. Most of the time we have drawers full of gadgets gadgets that we don’t even need any more. We dig around those drawers and shelves in search for a “still good” battery for yet another, this time new toy that we just bought 2 days ago. It will give us joy for months to come. Maybe. Usually its a few days later that a better, new model is out and we somehow just have to get it.
When cell phones hit the market, they were so expensive that it was a decision that had to be made with the family members…We got the one model that was in mid price range. Even that was more money then anyone would happily spend. Well, after 3 years we ended up having several cell phones in that knick-knack drawer. Some were really scratched, some missing a battery cover and some were still really in great shape – but “old”. Time for a new one…
That is not the case only with phones. There are a few mp3 players, Flash Drives, portable phone dialers, portable AM-FM radios, some worked on solar power…We keep on forgetting to take them all to that place where you can leave them to be recycled. We hope maybe some day we could give some of those to a kid next door or a cousin who just turned 12…No; we have no time for that. It’s better if we just take a look at what else is new with those GPS little devices. Small Electronics small electronics .
We need them – we don’t need them – we all want them – always.
I firmly believe that the little gadgets are there for us to help us when we become adults. It gives us the right to still play like when we were kids. We are not going to say that we play but we do play. We play saying that this is “very important” for us and that we can’t do without it. And why should Jack from 402 have a better remote control then you? Jack doesn’t even have LCD yet. You are way smarter for getting that little USB TV stick. Now you can watch TV from all over the World on your laptop. Talking about laptop – ASUS cam out with a really, really nice machine. It’s only $1200. You should get it after this pay…
Mean while, why getting a haircut? It’s still OK…For $40 more you could get another stick of RAM…
The story never ends. We grove old and we still want those great little gizmos. They make us happy. They make us feel complete. They give us our place in the Universe.
I should buy that NAS device – hey, $129 for a Terabyte of space…
