Dec-14th-2009

Dear readers.

The following free programs will increase the performance and usability of your computer.

Enjoy!

Ccleaner – CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it’s fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! Download for Free

Defrag – Cleaning your registry with a tool such as Eusing Free registry Cleaner will go a long way toward speeding up your PC–but it won’t go all the way. Even when you clean out the Registry, it may still be bloated. That’s because over time, the Registry becomes defragmented, particularly when you add and remove Registry entries. This free, simple tool defragments the Registry, and gains you a bit of hard disk space. More important, though, is that it speeds up your PC’s access to the Registry by compacting it–and that means a speedier PC.

Computer Wear Wired Shirts And Blogging Shoes Computers Meet Clothing Design

Dec-3rd-2009

There was a time not too long ago when the thought of a computerized shirt able to transmit information like heart health, body temperature and stress index seemed like science fiction. The idea digital fabric could change design, automatically lifting or lowering hems, light up at night, change with the weather and interface with other clothes was a futuristic concept. Computer technology continues to evolve, pushed forward by new materials and size reduction of components. Someday soon a man may walk into a Newport computer repair shop and ask if anyone can fix his pants. Over the last decade there has been the introduction of metallic yarn, fiber that has been imbued with conductive capabilities, leading to the development of digital fabric. blogging-shoes-computers-meet-clothing-design/#more-3014" class="more-link">(more…)

East Tennessee stands ready to embrace another alternative fuel

Jul-17th-2009

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — East Tennessee has officially welcomed a new alternative fuel production facility to the region, and enthusiasts from state and local government to local restaurateurs are poised to help biodiesel succeed.

On hand to open the facility were University of Tennessee President Jan Simek and UT Vice President for Agriculture Joseph DiPietro, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke, Tennessee Department of Agriculture Commissioner Ken Givens, and Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam. Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Executive Director Stephen A. Smith helped wield the oversized scissors that made short work of the ceremonial ribbon at the gathering of local business leaders.

Broadband map puts Tennessee ahead of the curve in prioritizing federal broadband stimulus funding

Jul-16th-2009

Nashville, TN – Today, Connected Tennessee announced the release of an updated version of the statewide broadband inventory map that illustrates the extent of broadband services available across Tennessee. The Connected Tennessee map, which represents broadband availability data from more than 60 broadband providers across the state, is expected to serve as a key asset for the state as it prepares for federal stimulus funding to support broadband expansion. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the USDA’s Rural Utilities Services (RUS) recently released their Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for stimulus funding aimed at expanding broadband, and Tennessee is well positioned to take advantage of the competitive grants.

The Connected Tennessee broadband map was created through a collaborative, public-private approach to broadband mapping as Congress prescribed in the Broadband Data Improvement Act of 2008. The map illustrates broadband service availability at the household level, based on information from all types of providers across Tennessee, including cable, telephone, wireless Internet service providers, rural cooperatives and municipalities.

Laser Technology

Jul-16th-2009

Laser technology is used in almost every scope of life, from the miniscule lasers in CD players to the lasers used to scan groceries in the checkout line to the massive lasers in aeronautics design. The discovery of laser technology and the subsequent building of ever-improving lasers have benefited the human race tremendously, particularly through medical advances. Medical lasers cause medical procedures to be quicker, better, and easier than their traditional counterparts. The only drawback is increased cost.

In 1917, Albert Einstein was the first person to suggest the basics of what would become lasers, by discussing the theory of Stimulated Emission, which is a type of electron transition in which a photon is emitted from an atom causing a chain reaction with other atoms to repeat the action. In fact, the word laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by the Stimulation Emission of Radiation. Charles Townes, an American physicist, further developed the idea with microwave (invisible) light in the mid- to late-50’s and Theodore Maiman built the first working optical (visible) light laser in 1960. Improvements and variations on hundreds of kinds of lasers continue to be made since the 1960s. Those involved in quantum mechanics have been studying some form of lasers, either in theory or in reality, since the 1920s. Uses for laser technology are widespread and are included in such important fields as medical/surgery, communications, design, manufacturing/industry, and research.

How to write a PHP coding to list out all files and directories as links to them?

How to write a PHP coding to list out all files and directories as links to them?

This is somewhat similar to some index pages. When new file or folder is added to the directory, HTML page should display the newly created file/folder together with previous ones after it is being refreshed. (prefer in alphabatical order)

How to achieve this sort of functionality in PHP? Please provide sample coding as well. (and any references)

Thanks.
